The Battle of Vertières (Haitian Creole: Batay Vètyè) was the last major battle of the Haitian Revolution, and the final part of the Revolution under Jean Jacques Dessalines. It was fought on 18 November 1803 between the indigenous Haitian army and Napoleon’s French expeditionary forces with general Rochambeau in command. It was last battle of the Santo Domingo expedition.
The resistance, which were troops led by Dessalines and the 9th Brigade, commanded by Francois Capois, who led the native to final victory, which forced Rochambeau to capitulate.
